Text to Speech Project

The Provincial funding from this grant has been used to support Lakeland Catholic - one of 4 jurisdictions chosen to receive this funding - as we address how to use core technologies to support the learning of all students.
Our District is investigating ways to leverage the sharing of digital resources, and providing feedback to Alberta Education’s Learner Assessment Branch on the use of Text to Speech Software for the purpose of provincial assessment.
Triple P Pilot Project (Positive Parenting Program)
Early Learning Branch, Alberta Education
The Triple P is a multi-level, parenting and family support strategy that has been proven to prevent and treat behavioural, emotional, and developmental problems in children by enhancing the knowledge, skills, and confidence of parents.
This pilot project aims to build capacity for the delivery of Family Orientated Programming as well as offering more broad based supports for parents as both a prevention and early intervention strategy for promoting family functioning in support of children’s behaviour.
This is a two-year pilot project.
New Teach Project
Workforce Planning, Alberta Education
Lakeland Catholic has established a two-year cycle for all new teachers hired in the District. For the purpose of this project, a new teacher is defined as a teacher with less than 5 years teaching experience. In the first year of implementation, the key priority will be to provide teachers will school start-up support, professional development, collaborative planning, and classroom coaching. In year 2, the professional development and classroom coaching will expand into deeper learning, which will assist teachers to acquire the essential skills needed to successfully implement district initiatives.
The goals of this project are:
- Develop teachers who are confident, collaborative and prepared to meet the needs of 21st Century learners.
- Provide a support network for new teachers
- Provide quality professional development that focuses on helping new teachers build their knowledge, skills, and commitment to quality and sustained teaching and learning
- Create a social network in an effort to retain new young teachers in a rural setting
- Provide opportunities for collegial sharing and reflective practice
- Provide experienced teachers will opportunities for professional growth and leadership through mentorship
