Inclusive Education
First and foremost, our Catholic faith embeds the philosophy of Inclusion, as we value and believe that every child is a gift from God. Three years ago Lakeland Catholic made an intentional effort to start the journey of implementing the philosophy that all children should be taught in the classroom and changed our practices to move Inclusive Education from being a place, to a service, within the classroom. Our inclusive model permeates all levels of instruction from Pre-school to grade 12.
Lakeland Catholic continues to identify teaching strategies and put into place supports that will help increase skills and understanding of how we can all work together to support our children, youth and their families to be successful. One example of how Lakeland continues to support the inclusion model is with our leadership in assistive technology.
As of September 2012, Alberta Education is requiring that all school districts throughout the province begin implementing an inclusive model.
