At Lakeland Catholic we are proud to offer you the choice of fully funded Catholic education. Our mandate goes well beyond teaching religious courses, we include the promotion of a worldview and moral life that integrates and informs all parts of the curriculum. Within our schools, a holistic, inclusive and Christ-centered education is our main focus. While this focus ensures that the knowledge and skills expectations of Alberta Learning are met, it does so within a framework of the Catholic faith. As such, we teach our students much more than the skills for the workplace. On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Lakeland Catholic Schools, I invite you to join our family and experience the difference – where Christ is our model, and children our focus.
Vicky Lefebvre - Chairperson of the Board of Trustees
Our Mission
A Catholic community of learners, opening Hearts, Minds and Doors.
Primary Mandate
Our primary purpose, like Christ, is to serve… our students, our parents and our community. Within this
context we:
• Develop students as responsible, ethical citizens focused on serving God and the community;
• Provide students with a wide range of high quality educational programs and services that educate the whole child – spiritually, intellectually, physically, culturally, emotionally and socially;
• Nurture self-esteem, success and wellness in a safe, caring and enabling learning environment that affirms the dignity of staff and students;
• Develop a learning climate that supports excellence, continuous improvement and life-long learning;
• Enhance our Catholic identity by developing and maintaining strong links among the parish, school and home; and
• Educate students as critical thinkers and problem solvers to enable productive and useful lives.
Values and Beliefs
• Each student is a unique gift from God to be valued and respected.
• All children can learn and experience success in a quality learning environment.
• All students, parents and staff have gifts and talents that must be recognized, respected and developed.
• Catholic/Christian values are fundamental in preparing our students’ minds, bodies and spirits, and Christ should be reflected in everything that we do.
• Learning is a visionary and proactive process that requires a collaborative effort by students, staff, families and the community.
• Learning occurs best in a safe, orderly and caring environment where expectations are clear and students believe they can and will succeed.
• Students learn differently and at their own pace and have the right to access high quality educational programming.
• The Catholic school is an extension of the Catholic Christian community and is a vital link between church and home.
Faith in Education
"The Catholic School finds its true justification in the mission of the Church. It is based on an educational philosophy in which faith, culture and life are brought into harmony."
This educational philosophy is the foundation of our work in Lakeland Catholic Schools. We celebrate our Catholic identity through our religion programs, prayer and liturgical celebrations but more importantly our faith permeates everything that we do.
In our Catholic Schools, all students participate in Religious Education programs and the Alberta Learning curriculum is implemented within an overall religious perspective. The Gospel values permeate all dimensions of the learning process and this influences the way we view the world and each other as we seek to find God in all things. "There is in fact no delineation between religious and non-relgious learning in a Catholic school. Instead, teachers focus on integrating the faith dimension into every subject area."
Our district and schools have adopted the following eight characteristics which define our Catholic identity and the faith dimension that permeates all learning: community, tradition, humanness, sacramentality, rationality, spirituality, justice and hospitality.
Each school has identified ways they live each of these eight characteristics of Catholic education. For example, the schools build on Christian community and encourage staff and students to adopt a Christian way of life when they provide opportunities for them to srve the common good of society through works of justice and service.
One way the district lives its call to hospitality is to be inclusive of diverse peoples and perspectives. We welcome families and students of different faiths and religions who choose our schools because they have come to appreciate our Chrsit-centered environment and the religious dimension, which permeates and enhances all instrucation.
"We invite all to come join our Catholic Family and experience education with a difference."
